Charities
The Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery is particularly proud of the charity dimension of the Midwinter Ball, carefully selecting different recipients each year. We are extremely pleased that 2008 will see us reach a new landmark, exceeding $1m in total donations to charity since the Ball’s inception in 2000.
On Monday 5th May we will announce the names of the charities who will receive the proceeds from the 2008 Midwinter Ball’s fundraising effort.
Major charity recipient
This is a new program undertaken by Mission Australia which aims to tackle the growing problem of youth homelessness.
The Nightstop concept is simple: it provides safe emergency accommodation for homeless young people between 16-25 years in the homes of trained volunteers for 1 – 3 nights, allowing them ‘to take stock’ in a safe environment while they sort their lives out. The program was established in Queensland and with the assistance of the Midwinter Ball funding will begin establishing a network of Nightstop’s around the country.
